The city heraldy of Lazne Bohdanec

The first written evidence of the Bohdanec city comes from 1343. It records the a quarrel between the ciziten Kriz and the preacher which resulted in a brawl causing the communion-table to break up. It is very likely that the settlement was founder far earlier and the name Bohdanec was created, according to the literature, from the personal name Bohdan. In the 14th century Bohdanec belonged to the masters of Cimburk. The estate was bought by Vilem of Pernstejn in 8th January of 1491. During his reign Bohdanec was in its prime. The city was granted many important privilege. The most important act of Vilem of Pernstejn was founding of pond homestead Bohdanec was center of. This homestead has been upkept and 44 ponds have been maintained up to the present day. In the end of 19. th century the Slatine spa was founded by Jan Vesely. Field tests began in 1897 and over 70 patients used the services in the first year. In 1908 the first public bus line was established between Bohdanec and Pardubice with transport vehicles being from the Laurin&Klement company which was in possession the founder of the spa Jan Vesely. Bohdanec citizens used to be offered employment by the spa. During these time the spa expanded and its popularity got increased significantly. Today the spa offers slatin treatment, electrotreatment, watertreatment, massage and inhalations. The spa takes care of 7000 patients every year. Bohdanec became city in 1971. Later on the name was changed to Lazne Bohdanec in 1. st march of 1980.

The city heraldy was created accoring to legends when the soldiers of Bohdanec serving in the army of prince Vladislav II. during the Italian campaign sucesfully sieged the fortification of Milano and were given a badge for their bravery. It is half shaped with a golden ladder in black covering the first half in the first black field while red and white chessboard in the second field represents the fortification. The reality is different though. The domain of Pardubice and Bohdanec belonged to masters of Miletion whose symbol heraldy was chessboard and the ladder belonged to Zub of Landstejn who was an owner of Bohdanec for a while. Angel represents love while eagle might and crown power.
